The golf course at Discovery Harbour was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in 1972. The 18-hole, par-72 course measures 6,320 yards from the back tees and is laid out over gently rolling terrain with no water hazards. Jones’ minimalist design allows the natural landscape to shape the playing experience, and the absence of water features makes wind and elevation the primary defenses.
While not overly long, the course rewards accuracy and smart shot placement. Elevated tee boxes, small greens, and lava rock boundaries come into play on several holes. The views are one of its biggest draws—players often enjoy panoramic ocean vistas to the south and sweeping mountain views inland, especially during morning and late afternoon rounds.
Whether you’re a full-time resident or visiting the Kaʻū District, The Club at Discovery Harbour provides a low-key, scenic, and affordable way to enjoy golf on Hawai‘i Island.
