At the center of the golf experience is the Hualālai Golf Course, a par-72 layout designed by Jack Nicklaus. Opened in 1996, it was the Golden Bear’s first course in Hawai‘i and remains one of the most recognized tracks in the state. The course hosts the annual Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualālai, a PGA Tour Champions event that brings top professionals to the island each January. Routed through black lava fields and palm-lined fairways, the course offers panoramic views of the Pacific and strategic shot values shaped by trade winds and coastal terrain. One of the most notable holes is the par-3 17th, which plays downhill toward the ocean, requiring precision and club control to navigate swirling breezes. The finishing hole, a par-4 that runs parallel to the coastline, is often cited as one of the most scenic closing holes in Hawai‘i. In addition to daily play, golfers have access to a nine-acre practice area, which includes a driving range, putting greens, chipping zones, and a practice bunker—all mirroring course conditions. For members of the Hualālai Club, there’s also the Ke‘olu Golf Course, a private layout designed by Tom Weiskopf, known for its elevated inland setting and dramatic long views of the ocean. Whether warming up on the range, playing a competitive round, or taking in sunset views from the 18th green, Hualālai offers a golf experience grounded in world-class design and coastal character.
